This year Cambridge City Council is running an online (Zoom) conference on 10th November 5:30pm to 7pm to mark Living Wage Week (9th to 15thNovember) that shall consider means businesses can help tackle poverty in the city in the context of impacts that the pandemic has had for people in poverty. There will be presentations from:
- Michael O’Toole, the Chief Executive of Cambridgeshire Community Foundation, on next steps for the Cambridgeshire Coronavirus Fund that has been supporting vulnerable people during the pandemic
- The Digital Partnership: This is just about to be formally launched during Get Online Week 2020 (from 19th October), to help disadvantaged children and adults get and stay online
- Living Wage Foundation on the importance of paying a real Living Wage for people to meet living costs and their campaign focusing on pay of key workers
The last few months have been challenging for both workers and businesses, so not all businesses will be in a position to help us support individuals in poverty. For those that can, we are excited to share ideas of actions you might undertake, especially in collaboration with the voluntary and community sector, and on paying a real Living Wage to lowest paid staff members where businesses can afford to.
