Introducing our projects
Cambridge Ahead convenes Project Groups in three core policy areas: Planning and Housing, Transport, and Skills. Project Group members are drawn from the Cambridge ‘ABC’ – the Academic, Business and Civic leaders who have the relevant interest, expertise and tools for impact in each area.
Cambridge Ahead’s infrastructure gap project brings together national experts, Cambridge Ahead members, and stakeholders across the system to find solutions that will unlock Cambridge’s full potential – for local and national benefit.
The aim of the Policy Group is to bring together those with experience of working with central and local government to hone Cambridge Ahead’s proposals in favour of sustainable growth and maintaining and enhancing quality of life in our area.
We endeavor to help policy makers understand the implications for the housing market arising from current and expected future population and employment growth and consider how the policy framework can be shaped to help meet the resulting challenges.
Our aim is to influence transport initiatives to support growth and maximise the region’s potential in the long-term.
Cambridge can be a place of fantastic opportunity, with good new jobs created at a faster rate than almost anywhere else in the UK. However, we know that people from disadvantaged backgrounds are less likely to do those jobs and at the same time employers can struggle to fill vacancies and recruit and retain their staff. The Skills Group focuses on how the skills system can address these issues, making the Cambridge economy more inclusive and in turn build a more secure pipeline of talent for employers.
The Young Advisory Committee (YAC) exists to empower under-35s within CA member organisations to influence the long-term sustainable future of the Cambridge city region. This role is fulfilled through a number of working groups/subgroups that produce research, organise events and engage with the wider community.
Scoping and establishing the elements that contribute the most to the quality of life of people in the Cambridge region and from this developing a framework that will allow us to more readily influence decision-making at a national and local level so that those decisions enhance rather than detract from quality of life for existing and new residents and workers.
