Today Government has announced over £400 million of investment to support growth and regeneration across the Cambridge city region, alongside other major announcements across the OxCam Growth Corridor.

These announcements a firm signal of Government’s commitment Cambridge as a whole, and to Cambridge Growth Company specifically. This is squarely in line with what Cambridge Ahead has advocated strongly for since the General Election. Powers and funding will enable Cambridge Growth Company – working with local leaders – to deliver interventions at pace and scale that unlock new jobs and homes.

The OxCam Growth Corridor programme, which these announcements are part of, is also something we strongly support. Cambridge Ahead has made the case for many years, across successive Governments, that national focus and investment is needed to unlock this region’s remarkable potential. We are proud to be a founding member of the Oxford to Cambridge Supercluster Board that has played such a valuable role in recent progress.

Key announcements include:

  • Up to £400m of initial Government funding to accelerate regeneration and infrastructure in Cambridge, including space for businesses and new homes.
  • £15 million for the University of Cambridge Innovation Hub to create lab space for science startups to grow and compete on the global stage
  • Continued support for East West Rail, strengthening links between Oxford, Cambridge, Milton Keynes, Bedford, and beyond.
  • Government’s intention is to launch a consultation on establishing a new centrally led development corporation to support the growth of Cambridge
